Northwestern University
One postdoctoral fellowship is available for up to three years, with
competitive salary
and travel support, in the Jewett laboratory at Northwestern University.
The
laboratory is a part of the Department of Chemical and Biological
Engineering and
the Chemistry of Life Processes Institute. Our research aims to engineer
biological
systems for compelling applications in medicine, materials, and
biotechnology. We
focus on cell-free systems, with particular emphasis on protein synthesis
and
metabolism.
We seek highly motivated individuals who are poised to develop novel
technologies
for building synthetic ribosomes and for cost-effective production of
personalized
medicines and antibody repertoires. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of
this
research, a solid experimental background in biochemistry, biological
engineering,
chemical engineering, or molecular biology is required.
In addition to this
background, experiences with translation, RNA biology, yeast genetics,
therapeutic
protein synthesis, or ribosome display is strongly preferred. Successful
candidates
should have at least two publications (or pre-prints), be able to
communicate and
work with collaborators (students, postdocs and faculty), and be able to
carry out
research and develop ideas independently.
