Conclusion
Our investigation of clonal reproduction in the asexual strain of the
freshwater planarian S. mediterranea shows that these multicellular
organisms adopt a mixed strategy that com- prises both asymmetric binary
fission events (～70%) and fragmentation events (～30%) producing multiple
offspring.
