Two positions for Postdoctoral Research Scientists
We are seeking highly qualified and motivated candidates who share a passion
for scientific discovery to join an interactive team.
Post #1: The molecular and cellular mechanisms controlling the balance of
immune response in the mouse brain.
Chronic neuroinflammation is a common feature of the ageing brain and a
variety of neurodegenerative disorders. However, the molecular and cellular
mechanisms underlying the regulation of innate immunity in the central
nervous system remain elusive. We are interested in understanding what are
the causes underlying immune response abnormality in the brain and the
consequences for health span. This follows recent insights gained into the
astrocytic dopamine D2 receptor-dependent mechanisms of anti-
neuroinflammation in the brain, published in Nature (2013) 494: 90-4.
Answering these questions requires the development of new technologies that
make whole animals and single-cells centre stage, including genomics and
imaging tools, and will have a significant conceptual impact on brain ageing
and neurodegenerative disease research.
Candidates must have a PhD in the relevant field at commencement of
employment. Key skills include molecular and cellular biology and
familiarity with rodents.
Post #2: The molecular mechanisms underlying dopamine storage and/or release
in the mouse brain
Dopamine (DA) has long been known to play a major role in diverse brain
functions including movement coordination, reward, learning and memory.
Dysfunction in dopaminergic (DA) systems is associated with a variety of
neurological disorders. The significant impact of dysfunction of DA system
on health indicates the importance of maintaining DA functionality through
homeostatic mechanisms that are largely dependent on the delicate balance
between synthesis, storage, release, reuptake and metabolism. At present, we
are interested in the molecular mechanisms underlying dopamine storage and/
or reuptake and their association with cocaine addiction using mouse as a
model system.
Candidates must have a PhD in the relevant field at commencement of
employment. Key skills include molecular and cellular biology, and desirably
competence in electrophysiology, and familiarity with model systems or
rodents.
The successful applicants will join an interactive team (www.ion.ac.cn/
laboratories/int.asp?id=53) at the Institute of Neuroscience. Informal
enquiries may be made to Dr. Jiawei Zhou at [email protected]
/* */ . This is a
limited term contract with funding available for two years in the first
instance and possibly up to 5 years.
The Institute of Neuroscience, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences,
Chinese Academy of Sciences is a research institute which is renowned for
its research in neuroscience to enhance understanding of brain and improve
wellbeing. Further information about the Institute can be found on our
website: www.ion.ac.cn.
Closing date for completed applications is May 30, 2015.
