1985 | 6 I am working in industry and I am getting up every day literally at 11:00AM (I
get home at 11:00PM though).
As long as you are good, you will secure your job even in the down turn. Same
principle applies everywhere. NONE of my classmates in the States ever got
laid off in the past.

L******t 发帖数: 1985 | 11 Do you have work experience in industry? I would say industry work is easier
than academic one.
To secure your tenure as a professor, you got at least 10 years' hardship -- 5
years in Ph.D. program and 5+ years as assistant professor. Then if you don't
want to be nobody in your department/area, you have to work as hard as before.

L******t 发帖数: 1985 | 12 Man, you don't have to work that way anyway, especially if you don't mind the
rush hours every morning and afternoon.
As far as I know, professors work at home at night, if they don't stay in
office. That doesn't sound very much better to me either.

w*******g 发帖数: 9932 | 13 I worked in industry before but most of the time are not in CS.
Faculty job's only benefit is stable and flexible but also incrediably busy.
I think for a couple, one works as faculty while the other in industry is
the best configueration.
If my wife is a faculty, then I will switch to industry. hehe.

v*****t 发帖数: 10 | 14 There is a key difference: flexibility. You have to work in that style
everyday but most professors take one or two days off each week, working at
home.
Anyway, no matter what job you take, you have to work hard. That's for sure.
There is no easy money in this world.
