Did your guys attend some conferences using your own money?
I mean the fee for registrations, flight tickets and accommodations.
I remember that there are cases that they get such kind of supports attending
international conferences. Anyone has such experience?

My university (the University of Hong Kong) has only one support for each PhD
student. I have used it up.
I have succeeded in applying department funds for Algo, which is not enough.
So
my boss said he would also support for the rest since both of us are the
authors.
My boss asked me to do an independent work by myself including finding the
problem, solving it and the paper writing. I am lucky that my paper is
accepted by this isaac. So I am the single author | l**p

there? Such as the funding support for faculties, graduate student qualities.
From your case, seems the funding is a problem....

grant (up to 13500hk$) from the university to support for a conference. But
there is just one time for each student. I do not know the case for other
universities in hk.
Once you use this grant up, then you must get supports from other channels.
For CS department, we can get supports from the department. But it is limited
that only 3000hk$ for Asia conferences and 6000hk$ for others. Generally, it
is not enough to take a c

more on this.This amy also expalin why in HK the journal papers get more
emphasis.
in US, most grants to attending conferene are directly from the boss.
