just like John oliver in his first stand-up referred the floating grill (so
that you can grill when you are hanging out in the pool) as the absolute
extreme of American consumerism.

passes this year on these bikes. One is much faster than me; the other is slower. I believe
with industrial optimization, this toy could be real and fun. It may indeed
climb better (despite its weight) due to the standing form.
It is indeed less aerodynamic; so it would never beat traditional bikes in most racing condition.

h******2 发帖数: 1498 | 12 it's probably more efficient than a conventional bike ridden in the out-of-
saddle position. when you ride out of saddle on a conventional bike there
is more power output but it's also less efficient, and your heart has to do
more work because it has to pump blood further up. |
V*****n 发帖数: 893 | 13 I read a study comparing standing up and sitting, there are no efficiency
difference among experience cyclists. But they do stress a smooth pedaling
while standing as well.

h******2 发帖数: 1498 | 14 in the standing position the blood has to be distributed further away from
the heart in the vertical direction, compared with the sitting position. so
some work done by the heart is not transformed to kinetic energy.
imagine this: you have two radiators that are used to cool the engine. One
is placed horizontally and the other is placed vertically. it will be
easier for the water pump of the horizontal radiator to circulate the
coolant.

h******2 发帖数: 1498 | 16 from the heart's perspective, your legs are extended lower (when you stand
up), and the torso is elevated higher. the total vertical difference is
probably around 50cm compared with a sitting position.
there is 5.6 L (probably around 6kg) of blood in the body.
at resting heart rate, it takes the heart about one minute to move all the
blood to circulate the entire body. during exercise, it probably takes half
the time as one's heart rate easily doubles.
so, at least, the heart has to lift tha

No, it's nowhere near the efficiency of a conventional bike in climbing.
