the problem was that I didn't setup environment variables correctly.
Now I can install that, though I still think oracle produces suck softwares.
That may explain why oracle DBA's are popular.

You'd better check it out what real problem is.
ps: don't know if it is true the GUI needs some GNOME libraries. ie,
you 'd better install it under GNOME or any Xwindow if you've GNOME installed

gives step by step instruction on installation.
One mistake I made was that I didn't setup the size of the shared memory.

is an easy-to-install software. The installer is too weak.
