发帖数: 1359 | 3 我就属于表面看起来突然wake up的，不过也没什么后悔，现在我事业上也不比
同学晚。同学中，原来天天自习的尖子，现在在wall street，我这个从来不自
习的，居然道貌岸然地去做faculty，真是造化弄人。
兴趣确实很重要，我觉得自己并没有有意识的wake up，本科的时候兴趣在玩上，
研究生的时候发现自己的研究也有点意思。但是我觉得后天的 intelligence，也
就是做研究的思维能力，解决问题的能力非常重要，如果在PhD training中没有
得到这方面的提高，再往下很难。本科放羊不是特别要紧，如果PhD也整个放羊
了，就基本没翻身的机会了。 |

, and published quite a lot of highly-cited papers. After graduation, I
worked in the industry for 3 years, and was laid off several times. Then, I
went back to a top 3 university, working as a scientist under a brilliant
young professor. The field is quite new and exciting. I expanded my
expertise quite a lot, and published some quality papers. However, I started
losing interest very quickly, and felt extremely depressed. P |

btw, those wall street people have been well punished during the crisis. the
ir life will not be much better even in the future.

怎样做研究生啊，怎样做教授啊，都是在怎样做science过程中的问题。
做教授难道真是所谓人生目标？太搞笑了吧。是为了做science而做教授，不是为了做
教授而做教授。
本文题目，怎样做一个教授，其实跟怎样做一个大厨一样，做什么工作不得要点兴趣？
不得要点passion？

兴趣重要，passion重要谁都知道，我现在不随便鼓励谁，生物这玩意，一将功成万骨
枯。你感上好时候，随便有点兴趣都
能发达，赶上不好的时候，付出10倍的精力兴趣也不见得做点自己满意的东西。那些在
牛人实验室淹死的，都是没有兴
趣？没有passion的？未必吧。8年博后，不管你啥兴趣，啥passion都给磨光了。

nice position, enough support, great students
i asked myself sometime, how did i do it? it turns out, i think opportunity
plays the same role as passion and
intellect. without enough luck, the time of reaching one's dream will be
much longer.

sufficient. Maybe they are the most important among the many factors that are necessary. In contrast, I don't think luck is necessary. I don't think I had any luck – well, it depends on how you define luck.
