is that European scholars are more likely to provide negative comments than
US scholars. Currently one European scholar (world famous in my field) has
agreed to be my external reviewer, but I am not sure whether to provide his
name to my department.

worry about. Actually, I do not think so.
I received some referee reports from some Europen "scholars", totally
nonsense. It is clear to me guys from Europe are on average very close
minded. |

I am a little hesitate on whether to use this person as a reference or not.
We are not allowed to use PhD committee members and coauthors as external
reviewers, so I do not have a long list of persons to choose from.
Anyway, I will spend more time with my papers rather than thinking about
this too much. |
