I am a 21-year-old student at McGill University and my family resides in
Lomond, Alberta, Canada. I am looking for a lawyer for my mom’s divorcing
case with my step-father. I understand that you have a busy schedule. If you

I am writing on behalf of my mom, who speaks poor English. She is
considering getting divorced with my step-father. They got married in Nov.
2008. My mom, my brother (6 years old) and I moved to Canada on July 2009 as
a permanent resident (we are Chinese citizens). My step-father owns a farm
Lomond, AB. His annual income is about 400,000 dollars. My mom has many
serious health issues such as stomach bleeding, 70% carotid artery shrinkage
. She went back to China for about 11 months last year for medical care and
came back in June, 2011. Her health condition recovers while she was back in
China. She has been mentally tortured by my step-father ever since she came
back to Canada. And her health conditions are getting worse these days due
to the mental stress my step-father has been giving her. So she wants to get
divorced with him. Yesterday, my step-father said to my mom and brother “
Start packing and get out of here as soon as possible!”. My mom could not
work because of her health condition. She only speaks very poor English and
she only has 4000 dollars in her bank account. She does not know where to go
right now and do not even have a place to go. She needs legal consultation
and protection.
Here are some questions my mom want to ask:
1. She only has 4000 dollars now. Does she need a lawyer? Is that enough to
pay for the lawyer？If not, what other ways can she find assistance?
2. Does the process of getting divorce and apply for alimony needs her to be
present in Calgary? Can she come to Montreal to stay with me since my step-
father wants them to leave asap and yet she has no place stay in Calgary?
3. Can she ask for alimony? If so, what will be the amount that she can get?
She is still paying for my tuition and raising my 6-year-old brother.

. We will sincerely appreciate your help.

status is that important to her?

加拿大对妇女儿童还是很好的，我老公离婚的同事基本都比较惨。
你弟弟如果是继父的孩子肯定有扶养费。
你母亲有可能拿到赡养费，但这个是法官根据情况判的，不像扶养费是强制的。有也不
会很多，因为结婚时间很短她对家庭贡献很小，而且她是本来就没有谋生能力而不是结
婚导致没有谋生能力。 | B***j

师都不回邮件或电话。 能否介绍或推荐一位律师？
