(a) The beauty of Financial Times and Economist magazine is they not only
tell you what happens, but explains how and why. No newspaper, to my
knowledge, reported Globalfoundries acquired Chartered Semiconductor, not to
mention why Chartered is willing to be bought, especially considering the
fact a little over book value is not much. The Lex column is not available
to nonsubscribers online.
(b) Naturally SMIC must be in a bad shape, which was teh fourth largest

startling to me but apparently merely a blip/footnote to others, considering
the fact that few Western media reported it.
