，有个SWITCH （6个口）目前貌似没上电源。 ATT U-VERSE的猫就放在这个衣橱里，我
把无线关了，因为不想再卧室里开WIFI ROUTER.
然后所有一层二层房间都有红蓝两个网线插口，我原以为所有蓝色口都是互通，红色也
一样，后来发现不是这么回事。 貌似是中央HUB那里出来一簇线头，每根连着某个房间
的一个口。 比如我找到一根线是到二楼书房的蓝口的（跟楼下房间蓝口不通），我直
接把这根线连到ATT MODEM，然后再二楼书房弄个NETGEAR, 单后想从NETGEAR LAN出来
一根走红口再到楼下接一个LINKSYS做DUAL AP（只有NETGEAR开DHCP），结果发现根本
不通。
这样的话我是不是只能让卧室的ATT MODEM做WIRELESS ROUTER了？ 不知道那个所谓的
SWITCH是啥用途，我试着吧两根线都连到SWITCH上，结果没什么变化。 | a***e

if you are lucky and the house new enough, all cable plugs are RJ45
compatible.
all you need to do is:
HUB(MODEM) cable to blue port of whatever place, connect to router WAN port,
from one of the Modem LAN port, connect to the red one and going back to HUB.
add an ethernet switch (8port at least, powered) and distribute the signal
port to port to different rooms.
the so-call 6-port switch (if it is unpowered) is most likely a telephone
interconnect board and can only be used for telephone. the center portion of
a RJ45 socket is compatible with standard 4-wire phone connector.
older house (before around 2005), most likely you will have one or two white
strip of standard phoneline distributor and it is a piece of crap to mess
with.
better just cut the line and make RJ45 yourself if it is standard 8pair
ethernet cable. if it is old style phone cable, leave them alone and you are
out of luck.

发帖数: 1272 | 3 Thanks! So in short the "switch" with 6 ports (looks like RJ45) is not
really an ethernet Switch at all, right? That's why it was unplugged and
make no effect at all even after I plugged in different cable together into
it.
I will need my own switch to inter-connect the ports in all the rooms, red
or blue, correct?
Or I can just use my ATT U-VERSE modem (4 LAN ports only), but it will be a
little tricky to make two other wireless routers to use the same SSID and
all connected devices to talk to each other (say TV on 1st floor connected
to LinksSys and a desktop PC on 2nd floor connected to a netgear)?

发帖数: 27968 | 4 ethernet switch need power to forward and manage communications so yes you
need a power switch yourself. the hub is generally a metal box, which will
block most of the wifi when closed.
as along as you use only one router for routing and the rests only as switch
and wireless AP, all devices will be in the same subnet and can talk to
each other.
bridge mode between different brands is quite tricky. should be easier if
you flash everything to DDWRT or tomato. i just use stock with different
SSIDs and everything works fine.
so you could still use your modem as router and the linksys, netgear as
access point for simple setup.
