that your fear or your belief that your English is not good enough is not
true. Just write it out, and google your phrases to see whether they are
commonly used or whether there are mistakes, make revisions accordingly, and
then trust yourself in that. The trust in yourself is more important to
build, than your actual prowess in English.

help you revise it.

you? Firstly, your adviser may or may not be able to do so. Secondly, he may
or may not want to do so. You've got to write emails by yourself later on.
Just to translate the sentence you mentioned, it could be written this way:
Could you help me to contact some people to see whether they can be my
independent references for my green card application? The opinions from the
independent references are highly regarded by the immigration officers, even
more so than our collaborators. I know that you have many friends in this
field, whom I haven't worked with, and they could be the best candidates
since they know our work and yet they don't know me. Could you do me a favor
to contact them to see whether they could help me with this?
