you defeat your purpose.
Keep in mind the creditor protection of ROTH converted rollover IRA is
different (read: lesser) than 401k and Rollover IRA.

15% or

不如roll over到traditional IRA

K****D 发帖数: 30533 | 7 I guess LZ is planning to convert anyway. So either convert this year
at the rate of 25% or convert a few years later at the rate of 28%.
Very obvious choice in this case.

understand why many think they'll have higher tax rate.

Roth
conversion only makes sense if:
1. you will use money outside of the tax deferral acct. to pay conversion
related taxes.
And
2.1 you are not planning on taking the money out during the rest of your
life (estate planning).
or
2.2 your current year otherwise taxable income is negative or very low, that
you can do the conversion at very low costs.
In your case, the difference is only 3%. you don't know what bracket you
will end up being when you retire, and you will have to pay taxes that you
otherwise would not required to pay for years and loss the potental earnings
you would otherwise earn on it over the years to come.
Baozi please.

t***s 发帖数: 4666 | 11 401k and ira and ss are treated as regular income. in the end, two things
make me select roth, although our marginal rate is very high, since we are
paying amt.
1. certainty. you pay a certain amount of tax and don't need to worry about
future tax rate.
2. you save more in effect with roth.

S**C 发帖数: 2964 | 12 US has to cut entitlement programs AND raise tax to be solvent in the future
, the politicians either choose to be adults or the bond vigilantes will
force their hands eventually.
Also ROTH IRAs do not subject to RMD, which can knock you into higher tax
bracket if you have a nice nest egg, and there always be a possibility that
you NEED to withdraw a large amount for certain unexpected reasons in a
given year.
