Really need your advice regarding my application for a summer clerkship
position. Here is the firm's background. It's a big regional firm, but certainly
not in the same league as the big NYC and DC firms you guys work for. :-)
Anyways, now it's been three weeks since my call-back interview at the firm.
I just got a letter from a partner, who is one of the interviewers, saying
that they would need some additional time for making a decision, they are

nature of the firm so that you guys can give me more informed advice. I'm
just guessing regional firms and big national firms might be different in
some aspects. And I happen to know many friends here are from top law
schools and work or clerk at big national firms.
What's your advice on this situation?

applicants because the law firm cannot foresee the next summer's needs yet
and need more time; or it could be that this particular partner really like
you. Nobody can really tell.
But it certainly helps to express your interests once again. If you've
learned more about the firm's practice or have been following their major
matters, do mention it and specify how you may contribute. In a normal year

culture, elderly and experienced are respected and honored. But here,
people don't necessarily have a positive reaction when being called older.
Kissing ass in this culture is more subtle. In Asia, deferring to seniors
is always considered respectful; here people might think you just cannot
stand up for yourself. What people do here is exchange ideas freely with
seniors and express their own thoughts, while subtly agreeing |
