the first thing I do after install kde is to unsinstall kmixer and
knetworkmanager/networkmanager!

+1. There is no point using either of them if not using wireless.
I still use kmixer though. It works neatly with the volume control
keys on my keyboard.

如果自己手写一个 wpa_supplicant.conf，完全不用什么 GUI
反正就是动手与不动手的差别了

A lot of programs use NetworkManager to detect if the machine is online or
offline.
Whack NetworkManager, you basically whacked an important part of your
desktop.

as long as I have the right wpa_supplicant.conf and ifup settings,
network is up and running.
