else is interested in going with me.
Storm cancels, snow does not cancel.

Meeting Time: 6:30 am at the South Fork Trailhead on Jenks Lake Road
Starting Time: 6:45 am from the South Fork Trailhead on Jenks Lake Road
Distance: About 13 to 14 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 4700' elevation gain
Rating: Very Stenuous
A snow climb - Ice axe and crampons required. If we get more snow, snowshoes
might be needed too. Stormy weather or poor road conditions will cancel
this climb. Also, please note we will not go up the north face chutes to
San Gorgonio if we are concerned about avalanche danger (fresh new snow on
the old hard snow might create this type of danger). We will still head up
the South Fork Trail, but switch to something like Charlton where we can
stay in the trees.
The pace of this climb will be slow and steady if you plan on going at my
pace - more like the tortoise than the hare.
We'll climb one of these chutes:
Please answer the questions when you sign up. You will need to be familiar
with the use of an ice axe and crampons to sign up for this climb.
Map showing optional routes. I like Route A if the snow coverage is good
above South Fork Meadows. Route A also puts on track to do Charlton if we
opt for that instead of San Gorgonio. |

冰斧也无法ARREST,容易滑坠
如果要去,最好跟着有经验的一起去. |

而且本周六据说会下雪,

Hi everyone:
I have learned a lesson, and that is not to put a winter/spring snow climb
on the calendar more than a week before the date of the climb due to the
unpredictable weather.
It doesn't sound like the bulk of the storm will hit until Sunday, but I'm
just too nervous to lead a group when there's a storm coming in; so I've
canceled the climb. I'll leave the trip on the calendar until tonight -
that way people can see who's signed up; so you can make alternate plans
together. |

will do. But you have to keep watching weather/snow condition and update yo
ur plan.

mean she should post it just one week prior so you can have a glance of the
next week weather before so less likely the hike will be cancel.

It was actually 21 hours, not 22. We were all puzzled about why it took so
long. Some contributing factors include...
(1) We decided to be creative and descend Chokecherry Gully rather than the
HPS Gully on the way back from Samon Peak. Although this worked, it was much
slower.
(2) We lost the trail several times on the way to and from Madulce Peak, in
part due to the fading light (we started at 4 am, which was much too late)
and in part due to the poor condition of the trail. And in part due to
carelessness.
(3) We lost an hour or so when Abbey's headlamp failed, causing her to
vanish for a while.
(5) We encountered snow on north-facing slopes on the trail to Big Pine and
West Big Pine. Obviously hiking in the snow is slower.
This doesn't really justify the 21 hours. I'd like to try again. A number of
people have done it in 16-18 hours, although they are all very strong
hikers, certainly stronger than I.
Samon and Madulce are somewhat easier when it's light out. Since you're
going on March 26, you will need to manage your use of daylight carefully.
This could be more difficult if there is lingering snow.
As for the comparison to the Grand Canyon: I hiked R2R2R in 17 hours: 16.5
hours of hiking (no running) with half an hour on the North Rim. |

真的话， 你要训练体力，买爬雪山装备，UGG的肯定不行。 最重要的是带上白菜，或
阿诺。。。

ugg还现实点，不过半天不到估计就不行了。
你去买专用的hiking 鞋子，要防水的，雪山的话再买双gaiters。

爬升9000英尺，换算成米是2700米.现在最高的建筑是迪拜的burj tower, 848米。
他们打算花21个小时走下了。
所以我知道，你不仅耐力和承受能力可以 体力也一定好。
