do observership with her. I will start on this Friday.
My question is that I want to apply IM in stead of family medicine this year
. Does it help if I do the observership in family medicine? Also, the
resident is working in a clinic office. There are 30 doctors in the office,
but it is not a real hospital. I wonder how much does it weight if I get
recommendation letters from them.

- No problem for a clinic. One of my best rotations is FM in a clinic
setting and I had a lot hands-on experiences. The two doctors gave me
incredible recommendation letters.
- The only concern is her title – a third-year resident vs senior physician
(She may use "Family Medicine Physician" though). But you may have opportunities to approach other doctors in her office as well. Try to get at least two U.S. doctors’ LORs. | l******u

and concentrate on the observership. In a clinic setting most likely you'll
get more hands-on experience. This and strong LORs from doctors are critical
for your residency application. | w*******t

了, 我只能看, 不能动手. 而且她干活很麻利,实在也找不出我可以表现, 拍马屁的地
方.没两天,又提出, 因为我不能动手, 她也不好写什么,只能说我跟她了解了一些医疗
系统.
太郁闷了, 我现在只有这一个OB. 如果找, 也只有可能找一个中国医生了,听说中国医
生的推荐信, 人家会打折扣. 而且,我老板是中国人. 不想再要中国人的推荐信了.
大家出个注意吧, 我还在准备CK.是把CK放下,去外地搞一个OB 或externship做呢, 还
是首先把CK赶在8月底完成, 就凑和推荐信了. | e*****a

should be OK. The content matters most.

发帖数: 1334 | 9 An observership generally only offers "observation", ie, you are pretty much
just shadowing/following an attending and no direct patient contact. You
may attend some case discussions, meetings and lectures.
An externship on the other hand, offers some hands-on U.S. clinical
experiences. Students/graduates can touch/examine most patients. Externs are
like interns but without a contract with the hospital and their work is
unpaid like students.
The LORs should indicate you "observe" or "have hands- | m***7
