preliminary and internal medicine?
2.我想做外科，但不确定结果，所以想同时申请preliminary and internal medicine?
那条路会容易转到外科去？

For internal medicine, you only need to apply for categorical IM (three
years which includes the PGY-1).
For general surgery, again, you may only apply for categorical general
surgery (five years which includes the PGY-1). Some people are dedicated to
surgery so they may also apply for preliminary surgery as backup. If they
don't get a categorical GS they will take the preliminary surgery and
hopefully will get into a categorical GS program one | e*****a
