(1,079 AMGs and 992 independent applicants) in 2009. 824 AMGs (success rate
= 76.4%) and 236 IAs (success rate = 23.8%) matched. This doesn't count for
people without any interview invitation.
Many programs prefer candidates with step 1 score > 210. Conventional wisdom
has it that letters for surgery training programs should be from surgeons,
or at most one letter can be substituted by MICU,
Gastroenterology, Anesthesia. | g****e

看Surgery-Preliminary (PGY-1 Only) 的位置2009没有fill满啊？
另外怎么选择Surgery (Categorical)和Surgery-Preliminary呢？总共有500 多个programme呢？
是不是对CMG就只申请Surgery-Preliminary？ | m****8

奔兄明鉴，策略很微妙。我当时的问题就是把prelim和cate混为一谈，觉得拿得到cate
的prematch，prelim也应该可以。是二饼医生还有后来几位帮助我的院总和主治朋友让
我了解了prelim和cate的申请方法根本就是两回事。Cate因为有三年的培训时间，医院
选人的标准相对更注重潜力。所以IMG的机会就大些。但是prelim就那么一年时间，入
选人热身的余地很小，也没有将来拿fellowship给医院提高声誉的可能，医院就会愿意
要本土的学生。这个时候是在用我们的短处和本土生的长处比，劣势很明显的。我得到
prematch的情况应该算是很特殊了，很不具有普遍性。再次提醒大家，小心对付！ | d******e

1) General Surgery route (5 years+) and possible a fellowship afterward:

Thoracic
Vascular
Surgical Oncology
Hepatobiliary
Colorectal
Transplant
Minimally Invasive
Bariatric
Breast
Endocrine
Trauma/Critical Care
Surgical Critical Care (without trauma)
Pediatric Surgery
Head and Neck
Independent Plastic Surgery
Burn
Hand (only a few programs take non-Ortho or non-Plastics trained residents)

Specialties positions.
The letter in the program code indicates the nature of the position, for
example,
General Surgery 1898440C0
Surg-Prelim/Undesignated 1898440P0
Surg-Prelim/Designated 1898440P1
C - Categorical
P – Preliminary
Which program(s) to apply will depend on the candidate's qualification.

一直有个梦想做外科，也知道match很难，工作更辛苦。听说一个柔弱的JJ今年match上

建议去ob看看，再决定。如果没有surg经验的话
nothing is impossible. 没有人比你自己更了解你自己的条件。如果觉得有可能，就
试试呗，但愿不要留下什么遗憾。今年版上还有上骨科的。加油
