不用删原来的， 在ERAS 放多少封推荐信都可以，你只需要给这封新的更好的LOR
designate a new slot, generate a new DSF and cover letter (for example,
previous one is LOR #2, this one can be LOR #4), send to ERAS and have it
scanned the same way as the last one,the only critical thing left is that
when applying and assigning LORs for each program, remember to assign the
correct one (i.e. LOR #4 in your case if you are SURE this will be a better
one).

"Once you reserve the slot for your LoR, you cannot edit the LoR. If it
contains errors, you will need to create a new letter writer and assign him/
her as a replacement to the one containing errors. Contact your designated
dean’s office (ECFMG)and inform them of the error so that they may attach
your document correctly. Your designated dean’s office will be able to see/
scan your reserved LoRs the next time they contact the ERAS PostOffice."

Thanks, this is informative and I understand your point. A follow-up
question is that in addition to mailing the new letter to ERAS and reserving
a new slot (as you suggested), whether I should inform ERAS via email that
this is a new LoR that comes from the same recommender who also wrote me the
old letter. I am a little worried that ERAS people may get confused that
the two LoRs are from the same recommender with slightly different content,
causing unnecessary problems later on. Thanks for your insight again.

Thanks, Eric. I did think about this instruction on my case. My
understanding to this instruction was that it applies to the situation when
one has made a mistake on the reserved slot and cannot change it after
submission, but the LoR remains the same. In my case, the reserved slot for
the first letter was correct, but now I have a second letter from the same
recommender for which I may need to reserve a separate slot.

You may think the old version "contains errors" which is not the letter you
will use. You have two options:
1) Send in the new version with a notes to instruct ECFMG for a replacement,
but use the original LoR slot.
2) Reserve a new slot and add something like "Dr. XXX 8/12/2010 letter" in
the author name so you'll not get confused with the old slot. Instruct ECFMG
to attach the new LoR to the right place.

my vague impression, I used to track on the arrival of the LORs (as well as
other documents) at ECFMG ERAS support service and scanning of the documents
to the AAMC ERAS everyday. They always scan the documents in the order of
arriving. That's how I found out they accidentally scanned my PTAL to a
wrong spot of a regular LOR at AAMC ERAS (I know, this is scary and happens rarely, but I was lucky to have been tracking and found out early, otherwise all the non-CA programs would have gotten a useless PTAL in the place of a meaningful LOR, and I
be still sitting at home today). Therefore I would suggest that you do the same to be aware of the status of all your documents. You will then be sure which one is the correct one to use when it's time to assign the LORs.
