感谢Mitbbs过去2年来给我的帮助,得到了很多的信息,也认识了很多朋友。之前和Hmis
说好,match过了之后会发一个帖子关于面试问题的帖子。里面集合了所有我面试的地
方的问题,都是面完之后立刻记下来的,应该基本可以传达面试时真实的对答过程.希
望能对大家有帮助.Good luck!
顺序是按面试的时间贴的。C是社区医院,U是大学医院
C
Questions:
1. You have been to XXX Hospital?
2. How do you study English?
3. At your school, do you use internet to study?
4. What is your career goal?
5. We talked about my school’s location. We talked about GI fellowships.
6. We talked about kayaking and mammoth cave.
Lessons:
1. Don’t drink when waiting for the PD. Be ready to shake hands all the
time.
2. Take the folder in right direction. Otherwise, pictures gonna fall out
.
3. Put the portfolio under the chair.
4. Do not open the folder if not necessary.
5. Do not ask a question that has been addressed in the overview.
Prepared more questions!!! Overview will answer lots of them!
6. Never answer the questions with yes or no only.

Questions:
1. Do you have any questions?
2. Tell me about yourself.
3. Weakness. (I said about negative though. She thought it was strength.)
4. Why should we pick you?
5. Any ethic problem encountered.
6. Difficult people to work with.
1. What questions do you have?
2. An ICU case. 85 yo F w/ hx of MS c/o kidney pain. What is the
management? (It was like a CCS case.)
3. An ethic problem. A lady with terminal disease states that she does
not want intubation or any invasive procedures. She goes to the ICU and her
son insists to try everything to save his mother. The son even threats the
physician that he will sue us if we do not intubate his mother. What should
we do?
4. A behavior question. I am going dates with my right person and get the
call from the chief about patient issue. What will I do? What if she
threats to break up with me?
1. Are you from XXX (my location in USA)?
2. Weakness.
3. Difficult person to work with.
4. What are you going to contribute to the program?
5. Any problem adjusting to the US life?
Lessons:
1. Be careful all the time. I broke the cup given by them.
2. Sit tight when interviewing. I kicked Dr. Karpov’s desk incidentally.
3. Do not say bad words all the time. I said people from NYC is not very
nice to Dr. Kanik. The good part is that she is not from NYC.
4. Watch out the questions you ask. I ask the PGY3 about her husband’s
fellowship placement. I said whether it was JHU and she does not look
resonating very well.
5. About the weakness. I said I tend to look thinks in negative light. Dr
. Kaporv believed it was a strength.
6. Remember the questions you prepared!!! It was so difficult to remember
all the 5 questions I prepared during the interview.
7. Warm up before the IV! I found myself warming up from 1st interviewer
to the 3rd one.
8. Don’t talk too much about GC or cash. Talk more about the passion on
the patient!

2. Tell me about yourself.
3. We talked about critical care training.
4. We talked about his fellowship interviews.
1. Did you graduate in 2010?
2. ‘We talked about my experience in XXX Hospital.
3. How are you going to contribute to the program?
4. What is your career goal?
5. What do you think is the biggest challenge for you in your future
training?
1. Tell me about your medical school and you city.
2. Did you graduate in 2010? What did you do from 2010-2012?
3. Why internal medicine?
4. What kind of program are you looking for?
5. Did you do any training in China? Do you need to go back?
6. Did you try any research?
Lessons:
I would say I have not noticed any major mistakes this time. If any, let’s
say these:
1. When greeting, don’t be in a hurry and be calm and firm.
2. Speak slowly and clearly.
3. Be early! I was late for about 3 minutes. Although the morning report
did not start, I was the second latest candidates, which was really bad.
4. Please asked the resident’s name who gave the tour and sent a card!
Don’t be shy at this time!
5. Don’t stay too late the night prior! It consumed energy!
6. Never use forward when sending emails!
7. Do not say that I will be a top guy in medicine if I work as hard as a
surgeon.

3. Do you have any questions?
4. A 35 yo M with polyuria and fatigue. How did you approach this? What
is the diagnosis?
5. Elderly patient with lethargy in the ER. How did you approach this?
6. How can you assess the asterixis in semi-coma patients?

Lessons:
1. Be calm! When facing medical questions, cool down first. Think for a
couple of seconds first! You have known a lot and you can figure it out!
Common things are common!

1. You got good scores.
2. Why internal medicine?
3. What is the difference between China and US in health care system?
4. How did you learn your English?
5. Did you study medicine in English or Chinese?
6. What is your career goal? Where do you want to practice after the
training?
7. You graduate at 2010? How did you go to XXX to do the sub-i?
8. An interesting case.
9. What questions do you have?

Lessons:
Prepare more questions.

Questions:
1. How did you meet Dr. XXX(my letter drafter)?
2. How was your time in XXX Hospital?
3. Where did you see yourself in 10 years?
4. Why are you interested in Cardiology?
5. Tell me about your study group in China. How many people were in that
group?
1. Tell me about yourself.
2. Who did you work with in XXX hospital?
3. What is the difference in medical education in China and US?
4. Any research in the past?
1. Any molecular work?
Lessons:
Match process is to judge fit.

Questions:
Panel interview
1. Tell me about yourself.
2. How do you learn the English?
3. Who is your favorite movie star?
4. What are you going to do after the residency?
5. Are you going back to China?
6. Is it difficult to waive J1?
7. How did you go to XXX? Did XXX send student to your school? How long
did you stay in XXX and XXX?
8. Do you have any questions?
Lessons:
I said ‘No, I don’t think so.’ When interviewing. Not sure whether that
will influence their judgment or not. Avoid using this in the future.
No major mistakes this time. A good sleep the night before is really
important. Keep energetic and keep being nice to everyone.

1. Tell me about your school.
2. What are the top medical universities in China?
3. How did you do in your medical school?
4. Prove to me that you are smart.
5. What do you do in your free time?
6. What is your visa preference?
Lessons:
Never try to compare. Don’t mention that US people work harder than Chinese
. Just never compare.
If not sure about whether a question should be asked, do not ask.

1. You know Dr.XXX?
2. You have been to many places. How did you do this?
3. What language do you speak? Mandarin or Cantonese?
4. What particular aspect of medicine are you interested in?
5. Do you have any questions?
Lessons:
Try to practice the questions you want to ask, loud and out!

1. Tell me your experience in XXX.
2. How did you make you way here?
3. Tell me something that is not your file but is important about you.
4. What is your career goal?
5. If you can, what you want to change about yourself?
6. What do you do in your free time?
Lessons:
Listen to the overview carefully and try to elicit questions from it.

Questions:
1. Tell me about yourself.
2. How did you go to XXX and XXX? Any interviews?
3. What is your career goal?
4. Did you witness any events endangering patient safety and how did you
respond to that?
5. How did you handle a conflict?
6. Do you have any questions to me?
1. You have been to many places. Tell me a little bit more about this.
2. Tell me a case that you handle some unprofessional behavior of other
physicians.
He did not ask whether I had questions.
Lessons:
Pay attention to the thank you note. Read three times to make sure there are
no mistakes.

3. I saw your mother is a nurse in the ICU in your PS.
4. Any fellowship plan?

3. Tell me secretes of your good scores.
4. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

7. You mother is an ICU nurses?

Lessons:
Do not say ICU physicians are very competent to a primary care physician.
Research the background the interviewers. Ask questions they like to answer.

2. Any connections between your school and schools in Nanjing and
Shanghai?
3. Why did you choose our program?
4. What do you think is the challenge in the residency training?
5. What drove you to come here and be different from the vast majority of
your classmates?
6. How is the gender ratio between male and female in medicine in China?
7. What subspecialty are you interested in? Why cardiology?
8. Where do you see yourself after the training?
9. How is China’s government doing with the epidemics of DM and MI?
10. What is the difference between China and US in treating the patients?
11. Where else did you interview?
12. Do you have any questions?
1. Do you have any red flags that I should be aware of?
2. Tell me about any challenges when you did your electives.
3. Did you do electives or observerships?
4. What do you see yourself in 10 years?
5. What challenges do you anticipate in your coming residency?
6. Any questions for me?
Lessons:
Remember the interviewer’s name! I forgot the name of Dr. XXX when talking
with Dr. XXX. I checked my folder which looked awkward.
Think before opening the mouth. Be calm when facing new questions. Be
yourself and present yourself calmly.

1. Tell me about the Chinese medical education. Did your school have
connections with XXX?
2. You have been to India. You went by yourself or with school?
3. Did you do observerships or hands-on experience?
4. Are you OK with J1?
5. Why do you want to do medicine?
6. Do you feel tired at the end of the interview season? Have been to
the end of the trail?
7. Are you going back to China or stay after the training? Why?
8. How did you learn USMLE? Did you have resources in China?
9. Do you see yourself practicing in academic setting or private practice
?
10. What specialty are you interested in?
11. Do you have any questions for me?
Lessons:
It was smooth actually. Try to talk before the interview begins. Some people
may look cold at first glance but still can be good talkers to warm up the
tongue.

4. How many times have you been to Chicago?
3. Do you have any questions?
1. What rotation in America was the most impressive one?
2. Did you have EMR in China?
3. Tell me the difference of medicine in China and US.
4. Do you want to specialize in the future?
Lessons:
At the end of the interview season, maybe you should just enjoy this moment.
No more lessons.
