apiece in 2012. One got nearly $21 million.Those are among the findings of
an Associated Press analysis of physician data released Wednesday by the
Obama administration, part of a move to open the books on health care
financing.Topping Medicare's list was Florida ophthalmologist Salomon Melgen
, whose relationship with Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., made headlines last
year after news broke that the lawmaker used the doctor's personal jet for
trips to the Dominican Republic. Medicare paid Melgen $20.8 million.AP's
analysis found that a small sliver of the more than 825,000 individual
physicians in Medicare's claims data base — just 344 physicians — took in
top dollar, at least $3 million apiece for a total of nearly $1.5 billion.

大概百分之六左右的利润。

天天高唱资本主义好，怎么忽然对明星医生挣得多眼红了？在商言商，在法律许可病人
高兴范围内挣得越多越好，不就是private的最高境界么？其实新闻里这个眼科医生，
我两三年前就听说他大名了，明星得很，据说加勒比海那边西裔的土豪们常年开着私人
飞机去找他看病。他每年的全部收入可以肯定远不止二十米令。而且，更重要的是，看
看他的背景，也是一介IMG，却如何爬到今天这个位置？A大您作为这里CMG的领头人，
与其发牢骚眼红，不如带领大家学习揣摩一下人家成功的经验？

something out of ordinary, no matter who you are. The fact will be a deep
cut on ophthalmology, and other specialties. Obama wins the battle.

This a very interesting medical ethical topic. I will give some background
information about this medication, and would like to hear what you guys
think about this.
I don't do retina, so not sure if this doctor is as briliant as described in
his own website. He is not that famous, otherwise as a comprehensive
ophthalmologist I would have heard of his name.
One thing I do know is, although anti-VEGF receptor is a true revolutionary
treatment for wet type age related macular degeneration (AMD), ever since
Lucentis was approved by FDA, there have been a big debate in ophthalmology
sociaty. AMD is No.1 cause for blindess in elderly people, high prevelence
in caucasian. Lucentis was the first medication ever was proved to improve
patient's vision. Prior to that there were FDA approved AMD medication/
treatment, the endpoint/ treatment success of their clinical trials are: "
less than 3 lines of vision loss". However, Lucentis is so expensive that a
lot of ophthalmologists are afraid of that if we use it on every patient and
every visit when indicated,
this medication alone will bankrupt Medicare. Meanwhile, Avastin, a close
resemly of Lucentis, also anti-VEGF receptor, used in colon cancer, about 1%
of the price of Lucentis, not FDA approved in treating AMD, has been widely
off-lable-used by majority of ophthalmologists in AMD. And there have been
two large scale clinical trials by leading retina specialists acrossed the
country in the past few years, proved the similar effectiveness and safety
profile between these two medication. Note that, as the physician who
inject this medication, you get a procedure fee (not much, as you all know
all the procesure fee are getting less and less), and 6% of the medication's
cost. Ballpark number, medication only, Lucentis $3000, Avastin $30, per
injection, and wet AMD patients need injects every 4 to 6 weeks when there
is active disease, for 12 to 24 monthes, then as needed.
A side note, both these medications are from the same pharmaceutical company. | A*******s
