”- If you notice though, the people who are getting these contracts are no
longer engineers or technology leaders. They are product managers, talking
heads, who have visibility for the work that engineers do. In the past
google used to make an effort to identify and reward engineers. This marks a
significant change. It is possible that this is a good change - but more
likely - this is a significant cultural departure for google.
- In the past google fellows, and google founders award winners were
predominantly engineers and they received outsized financial rewards much
like these retention bonuses.
- In the past google never based the comp decisions based on the offer you
got outside. This sets a bad precedent.“
