利福尼亚州橡树园的橡树园联合校区，信函内容是给一位九年级学生于在校时间内不宣读
效忠誓言的选择作支持的。作为非上帝信徒的学生, 此九年级学生拒绝以『Under
God』(上帝之下) 二字作出宣誓。
Appignani人文主义法律中心(以下简称AHLC)讲述信内他们陈述的以及该学生的关
注点: 强制学生宣读誓言是侵犯了宪法所赋予该学生可拒绝参与之权利，该学生宁愿静
坐于他的书桌边，代替起立宣誓。
Yet, the student was verbally chastised by his teaher in the classrom
and claims it was he, the student, that was being disrespectful and tried
intimidation techniques in an attempt to force him to say the pledge. The
student contacted the AHLC through the organization's campaign website,
DontSaythePledge.com, which encourages individuals who object to religious
language in the Pledge to refrain from participating in it.

The letter demands that all students and teachers at the school be
informed that students have the right to remain seated during the Pledge of
Allegiance for any reasons and that teachers are not to attempt to persuade
students who exercise their right to opt out of the Pledge to do otherwise.
The letter also demands that assurances be made that no student who refrains
from participating in the Pledge will face punishment or other retaliatory
measures.
信中要求学校通知在校的所有学生和老师，在为任何原因宣誓效忠的期间，该学生

were not FORCED to do anything against their beliefs. They had the same
respect that I deserved FOR my own beliefs. Name calling is not the way to

entitled to exercise your constitutional rights to practice your religion
during the school day, such as praying on your own time, but not leading
children in prayer. The US Constitution doesn' t mandate respect. Children
who are religious have those same rights. ALL children, including Christians
, Jews, and Muslims.

The US Constitution doesn't mandate respect, but common decency does. I
don't care if the kid is Atheist, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Muslim. When
you take that stand, you are not making your side of the argument look good .

The US Constitution mandates the same freedoms for Americans of all
religions. No one in America DESERVES respect because of their religious
beliefs. I am actually a very respectful person, and I teach my kids to be.
In fact, people frequently comment on how respectful my children are. People
deserve a minimum level of respect and courtesy until they prove that they
don't deserve it. No one deserves respect because they subscribe to a
particular religious belief.
I stand by that, and I don't give a rat's $$ if you don't like it.

I think my opinion comes closest to yours. Some religions are really
quite hateful. They certainly don't respect people of other beliefs. So do
people that disrespect others themselves deserve respect? Not really. That
doesn't mean we have to be rude , but I'll be damned if I'm going to act as
if I'm cool with certain religions. They have rights, but so do I.

bush? If someone believes that people of other religions should have their

I was born in this country, to 2nd generation European immigrants. I am a
Viet Nam veteran who gave time and blood for this country. My father was a
career military vet who served in WWII and Korea. I have worked my entire
life - never on public assistance at all. I have voted in every election
since I turned 21 - usually for Republicans. I don't say the "Under God"
portion of the pledge. I don't believe in gods. Does that make me a "sicko"?
Did you need my "comi (sic) ass in 1969 and 1970 when I was in Viet Nam? If
I don't deserve the rights of an American citizen, how about a refund on
all those taxes I paid? Oh, and by the way, I remember when they added the "
Under God" portion to the pledge - it wasn't there as originally written. It
is a relatively recent addition.

What he said had nothing to do with religion or the phrase "under God".
He was referring to the individual not standing for the pledge. I agree,
that shows a complete disrespect for the flag and our country to remain
seated during the pledge. If you don't agree with the words, "under God",
don't say them, but at least stand up with your classmates.

Bob, I did not say anything about God or Religion. I am also a Viet Nam
vet and I stand by the Contitution and our Bill of Rights and that's exactly
my point. If people can't stand up for their Country then they should find
another Country and No I guess I didn't need your ass in Nam because I was
there in 67' and 68' Brother! I'm not going bother replying to all of the
other assholeizum remarks that the " morons and un Americans left for me " I
'll just say don't put words in my mouth!
