A light aircraft carrier Vikramaditya is intended to replace an Indian worn
out aircraft carrier Vikrant. When finished it must become a flagship of
Indian naval forces. This airship carrier was constructed on the basis of an
aircraft-carrying heavy cruiser Admiral Gorshkov that underwent deep
modernization. Today it’s in the navy of India, till December 2012 it will
have been tested.
After the reconstruction the airborne antisubmarine cruiser turned into the
light aircraft carrier.
Thay had to replace most of the elements above the waterline, utility
boilers, all the equipment was replaced with new, exceptionally anti-
aircraft one. The shed was also rebuilt. The aircraft carrier will be able
to take aboard aircrafts with mass up to 25 tons. Helicopters Ka-28 and Ka-
31 will be located on the aircraft carrier. Russian Ka-60 (Ka-64) and Indian
HAL Dhruv might be also located aboard. |
