A far cry from last year's preseason expectations, the Michigan basketball
team will start this season with a number in front of its name.
The USA Today Coaches' Poll ranked the Wolverines 18th in the country —
third in the Big Ten behind No. 3 Ohio State and No. 14 Wisconsin. The poll
includes a refreshing change of scenery for Michigan fans who find the
Wolverines atop Michigan State, which failed to make the top 25.
North Carolina dominated the poll, earning 30 out of 31 first-place votes.
Kentucky, Ohio State, Connecticut and Syracuse round out the top five.
While Michigan lost its leader in points and assists with point guard Darius
Morris going to the NBA, it returns the rest of the lineup which surprised
many last year by reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament and
nearly springing an upset on top-seeded Duke.
Helping to replace Morris's minutes at guard will be freshmen Trey Burke and
Carlton Brundidge.
The Wolverines will begin their season in two weeks when they host Wayne
State in an exhibition game. Ferris State comes to the renovated Crisler
Arena on Nov. 11 for the first regular season game. |

In oklahoma, even on newspaper, some reporter calls osu little sister while
others call osu little brother. |
