WASHINGTON—Dallas nurse Nina Pham, who fell ill with Ebola after treating a
Liberian patient who died in the U.S., is free from the virus and was
discharged from the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, officials
said Friday.
Ms. Pham had been transported from Texas to the Bethesda, Md., facility Oct.
16. She appeared Friday at a press briefing, dressed in a turquoise shirt
and black suit, thanking Americans for their prayers.
“I feel fortunate and blessed to be standing here today,” said Ms. Pham.
“I first and foremost would like to thank God, my family and friends.
Throughout this ordeal I have put my trust in God and my medical team.”
Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious
Diseases, declared at the briefing that Ms. Pham had had “five negative
tests” to show she is virus free. He said she continued to get “better and
better” and received no experimental drugs during her stay at NIH.
Dr. Fauci also said strict quarantine for people exposed to Ebola is under
active discussion.
President Barack Obama planned to meet with Ms. Pham Friday afternoon.
The 26-year-old Vietnamese-American nurse contracted the virus at Texas
Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas while treating Thomas Eric Duncan, the
first person diagnosed with Ebola in the U.S. He died Oct. 8. Ms. Pham and
another nurse, Amber Joy Vinson, contracted the virus while treating him.
Also on Friday, Emory University Hospital physicians, in collaboration with
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said Ms. Vinson “is making
good progress.”
“Tests no longer detect virus in her blood. She remains within Emory’s
Serious Communicable Diseases Unit for continued supportive care. We do not
have a discharge date at this time,” the hospital said. | R***o 发帖数: 3964 | 2 她出来讲话的样子
