Dear Sir/Madam:
I am a final year Ph.D student of Physics Department of University of
Manchester, UK. I am majoring in device physics and nanotechnology. I
submitted my thesis in Dec. 2005, I am waiting for my viva now.
The title of my thesis is Fabrication, Characterization, and Measurement of
Atomically Thin Carbon Devices. I have developed original techniques of
fabricating field effect transistors based on atomically thin graphite films
, sometimes even on single layer graphene films. We studied the properties
of graphene-based FETs, such as mobility at room temperature, Shubnikov-de
Haas (ShdH) oscillations in both longitudinal resistivity and Hall
resistivity, etc, and obtained some exciting results, and published them in
Science (please see Science, 306, 666 (2004) and Nature, 438, 197 (2005)).
This project was developed from using carbon nanotubes to fabricate field
effect devices, such as carbon nanotube transistors. Carbon nanotubes are
usually thought of as graphene sheets rolled up into nm-sized cylinders. The
atomically thin graphene films are a two-dimensional semimetal with a tiny
overlap between valence and conductance bands. The transistors made by these
graphene films can be seen as all metallic transistors.
After several years' studies, I am skilful in the instruments of micro-
fabrication, such as photolithography, e-beam deposition, ion milling, wet/
dry etching, and the instruments of characterization, such as SEM, AFM, and
STM. I also master in the pattern design of e-beam lithography.
I am very enthusiastic to continue working on device physics and
nanotechnology especially nanofabrication and characterization of electronic
devices. I am very interested in working in your company as a researcher or
an engineer. I will be very happy to send you further information you
require.
Thank you very much for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from
you.
