This is just a cognition test. It says little about intelligence.
The catch is that people pay more attention to实词than to 虚词。

I agree. However cognitive ability is one of the major make-ups of
intelligence, if we have a construct of intelligence. Being smart is not
exactly the same as being intelligent. It is just for fun. :-)

I said it's just a cognition test.
I'm not sure it's a test of cognitive ability or just a cognition style.
General mental ability is definitely the fundation of intelligence.
That's agreed.
For us who understands it, this is just for fun. For others who don't,
this is misleading, especially when your criterion validity statement
considered.

Your opinion and position is well taken. I did not consider the potential
misleading impact when I encountered it. Thank you for your input. I will go
back to the original post and add a not of "debriefing" to indicate that there
is no scientific basis for this test.

There is a scaling problem in the judgement part. People are more easily to
get 3 or 6 rather than 4 or 5---that is, if they noticed the proposition or
not. It is not valid to interpret people based on that equal interval scale
from 3 to 6. The difference between 3 & 4 is much bigger than that of 4 & 5, 5
& 6.Obviously, the interpretation assumed the differences between 4 and 5,and
between 5 and 6 is bigger than that between 3 and 4.
Anyway, this test is more dealing with people's reading style

Cannot agree more.
In fact, this is why we shoud be very cautious when we interpret the test
result to people who don't know it much.
We did a similar reading test to a group of Grade 4 kids. I remembered one of
the kids who was labeled as "smart" by his teacher did not do very well on
this test. He felt really upset and asked me whether this meant he was stupid.
We explained a lot to the whole group to let them know they were smart, the
results only told us they may have a different reading sty

I don't think this test measures reading style per se.
I think I probably made a mistake by posting it here. Joke board probably is a
more suitable place for it. However, at least, it got you to express your
opinions which is always greatly appreciated.
I guess that, since I have posted it, since we have already had some
discussion regarding what it is measuring, if it indeed is measuring
something, maybe we can seize this opportunity to discuss more about face
validity and construct validity fo

I'd suggest associate the results of this test to things like creativity or
unconventional thinking.
BTW, I think it's a fun test. Thanks 奕儿for introducing it to us.

Hehe, I would defend my point here...:)
Think about this test in this way:
If the test is given to a pre-K or K kid,who just learned the 26 letters. I
believe he/she can do much better than us adults. For this kid, a novice
reader, his/her reading style is to read "letter" by "letter" because a
word/sentence makes no sense to him/her at this age. Also, counting within 10
is not a difficult task for him/her to do.
In the second case, when the test is given to one of us, who is an adult
reader/exp

Hehe, but even it is for adult only, we still have adult with reading problems
who cannot move piece by piece or sentence by sentence. Then they win this
test definitely.
Then you can say this test is for adult with regular reading ability only...

ah...
Yes, you are right. But among the regular adult group, we still have different
reading styles. This is why some people read much faster than others but lose
a lot of detailed inoformation at the same time. For those who read more
slowly, most of them read word by word, espeically for those who read in
second language.

hehe 俺再跟你争一把,不管是什么样的 reading style,快或者慢,word by word
还是 line by line,在处理信息的时候都是 by chunk of information,都不会特别
留意到到底读到了哪些字母,因此,也许,可能不同的reading style在这个问题上不
产生特别的影响。
hehe.. 俺们这都是瞎猜,最后要有个说法,还要靠实验来证明呀。

There is probably a norm for general population.
I do not know about learning or reading disability. But the test does require
the person to read the sentence out, which makes it necessary to focus on the
semantics first. The harder it is for the person to figure out the word, the
less cognitive resources will be available for the letter counting. I think it
does have a little to do with the cognitive miser model.
Plus, the reading out requirement kind of excludes the children who just learn

Is there anyone interested in psycholigistics, the psychology of language?
I think the underlying theory is that the semantics/meaning of the
word/sentence overrules the make-up of the word/sentence, for a normal reader.
Since the meaning is generally the most important aspect in our daily life, we
are trained to focus on the meaning automatically, the phenomenon of
automation. It is so powerful that we can't reverse it even we are required to
do so.
That is my bricks! ^_^

There are two components in English Reading, word identification (or word
decoding, word recoganiztion) and reading comprehension. The first phase
of reading is to decode the words. Many readers have difficulty decoding
the words, they can't read or read very slow or with heavy error rates which
could interfere with the comprehension. This group of readers is also
called dyslexia. In English, Spanish, and German, phonological process
