Fairness and equality have won the day. During the legal challenge to Prop 8
, proponents of the measure based their arguments for preserving Proposition
8 on malicious lies and cruel stereotypes about gay, lesbian, bisexual and
transgender people.
Since then, they've been trying to keep videos of the trial secret because
they reveal ugly truths about the extremist motivations behind Proposition 8
and other anti-equality efforts that they've tried to cloak behind 'pro-
family' rhetoric – including their referendum to overturn the FAIR
Education Act.
But today, Judge James Ware did not agree with the backers of Prop 8, who
failed to present any compelling argument why the tapes should remain hidden
from the public.
Today's ruling is an important victory for equality and the right to know
the truth about what is happening in our courts of law.
We know that this is just one of many stepping stones to full equality. We
still have work to do and your support is critical to end the injustice of
all these anti-marriage equality efforts. | D**S
