I guess 30 miles per week is not that bad for 5K. At least for myself, I was
running 30 miles every week in a month last year and found my speed was
improved steady and quickly.
I plan to do more speed work after my graduation mess and try a 5K in the
summer or in the fall.

I still have nightmare of running hills of LAM (just kidding)
When I was running OCM, I was telling people, there are more hills than
expected, so it is not exactly a flat course. But only when I was running
LAM did I realized what hilly really is! Probably people familiar with
tougher course will laugh at me now.
But anyway, I also start to realize that in order to break hurdle in
marathon, speed work for 5k or 10k is essential.

ultramarathoner. He is training for Comrade
ultramarathon, and was using the 5K as a speed work (setting the course
record along the way).:)
