I wasn't able to make it within 2 hours, but I am still very proud of
myself. I feel so grateful for my best friend Q, who has been pushing me
and urging me in the past year to get outside and run, when I was in my
lowest point of my life. I could never have done this without her. Thank
you Q!
Ok, here it is the "report"(Q is my friend):

Q decided to follow the 9:30 group, and I said I would follow her. I
kept up with her for about 1 hour. At the 6 mile point, I saw my time
was several seconds over 58 minutes. I said to myself: ok, you are doing
well.
Many people stood at the side of road, waving and cheering to us: keep
going, you look good, go go go runners! Hang in there! Some older people
stood on the side of way, waving to their daughters or sons. Some held
signs with funny words on it. I remember one card board said, “Go Katie,
we like it when you stole it”. Although I don’t know what “stole” means
here, it was funny.
About 8 miles, I started feeling fatigue and hard to accelerate.
People’s speeds changed too. Some people slowed down and fell behind. On
the other hand, some started accelerating and started passing me.
Suddenly, I felt people were all smiling at me and waving even harder
with cheerful words. I looked back and saw a mom running with her son in
a joggler stroller! She looked young and fit, and she ran fast, at least
faster than me. People were running in front and behind her, cheering
for her. And I felt so moved: this is why runners are so proud of
ourselves!
The last 1 mile was a huge and steep slope. I almost cried when I heard
people said: you are almost there, just one more turn! I made my last
effort to accelerate and tried to pass people. However, I was so
exhausted and was only able to pass a few of them. Finally, I saw the
destination. I saw my time was about 2 minutes past 2 hours. Now I felt
so regret: if only I pushed harder, I could have run into 2 hours!
The first 192 female runners’ time records had already been printed out
and posted on a score board when we got out of the crowd and had some
refreshments. I looked for my own record but couldn’t find it. The
person on 192nd ran for about 2:01ish. I guess I was just a few people
after her. Q sent me my record the day after. I ran 2:02:13. Not bad. |
