this communication to advise you of a current investigation of an outbreak
of acute hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection that appears to be associated
with the consumption of Townsend Farms brand Organic Antioxidant Blend sold
by Costco stores.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. Food and
Drug Administration (FDA), along with state and local health departments,
including the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), are
investigating this outbreak. More information on this investigation can be

The CDPH recommends the public discard any remaining product from your
freezers, even if some of the product has been eaten without anyone in your
home becoming ill. Retail food facilities are advised to discard to secure
containers.
The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) is working in coordination with
the County of San Diego’s Epidemiology Program on the local response to
this outbreak. The County’s Health Officer is recommending that if you ate
Townsend Farms Organic Anti-Oxidant Blend frozen berries within the past two
weeks and you have never been vaccinated for hepatitis A or had the disease
, you should contact your health care provider to discuss hepatitis A
vaccine or immune globulin. If you do not have a health care provider, you
can contact the County of San Diego’s Epidemiology Program at 619-692-8499.
