Bellevue rejects safest, greenest energy option
Last week, the City of Bellevue removed from further consideration the only
safe, smart, and green alternative to Puget Sound Energy’s proposed
Energize Eastside megaproject. This was done without explanation. If this
stands, the environmental impact study will proceed with just two
alternatives: do nothing or build an 18-mile chain of high voltage
transmission lines and towers on top of a jet fuel pipeline through 20
neighborhoods.
Bellevue City Council needs to hear that we will not accept an over-sized
backwards-looking approach that puts our safety at risk and degrades our
communities. We can choose a solution that matches our needs, ensures
reliable service, employs proven technologies, and reflects our values.

Dear Councilmembers,
I’m appalled that City of Bellevue planners threw out the only safe, smart,
and green option in the environmental impact study for Puget Sound Energy’
s Energize Eastside proposal. I am part of the Coalition of Eastside
Neighborhoods for Sensible Energy (CENSE) and its 3,000 followers.
We are mobilizing residents, businesses, community leaders, and
organizations in 20 neighborhoods along PSE’s proposed chain of mega-towers
and high transmission lines to say “No!” to a flawed process and a bad
option.
An 18-mile scar through the Eastside constructed on top of jet fuel
pipelines should not be our only option. And the City of Bellevue should not
limit our opportunity and responsibility to transparently develop best-
practice approaches that are being embraced by growing cities worldwide.
CENSE hired industry experts to develop a better option known as "
Alternative 2B" which:
Meets our projected energy needs at lower cost, with greater reliability.
Aligns with our core values of innovation, livability and environmental
stewardship by employing advanced energy management technologies and robust
conservation.
Puts safety first, reducing the risk of devastating pipeline fires.
Preserves 8,000 mature trees and the neighborhood character that
attracts businesses and employees to the Eastside.
We demand the Council take steps to re-open the conversation and include the
safe, smart, and green option, Alternative 2B proposed by CENSE, in the EIS
.
We cannot afford to rush approval of an excessively expensive, dangerous,
outdated plan for our future.

Just like federal way, tacoma or even bellevue, it belong to Seattle Metro
area. Other than its proximity of bellevue, it has nothing to do with it.

300 people, it is too small to be seriously considered as a real city.

them. They have their own town hall and police force. I agree Beaux Arts can
set up its own rules because of its township status.
