of wasting time driving, I decided
to learn everything about binding mounting and do it myself.
Here's a simple write-up and some photos of the process.
Step 1, Find out the right mounting point of your binding on the skis. For
me, There are different schools for
this (especially for telemark bindings), It's half science half experience.
I decided to mount my boot center on
ski boot center line. And eventually I moved boot center 1.5cm front with
my binding's shifting feature.
Step 2, Preparation,
You need
- Marine-type epoxy 1-2 hour set, 24 hour cure
- Drill bit, NTN recommend 3.6mmx9mm drill bit, while black diamond
recommend 3.6mmx9.5mm, I ended
up DIY a 3.6mmx9.5mm drill bit using a standard 9/64 (3.6mm drill bit) using
a ball pen tube as stopper.
- A good screw driver match the screws come with binding, make sure you
check whether it's PH-2 or PH-3
- Marking tapes, Ruler/Tape measure, Pencil
- A power drill
- Some q-tips (for applying epoxy)
- Claps for fastening skis to a workbench.
- A tap for marking drill hole
- A print out template of the binding's mounting pattern
Step 3, Apply masking tape to the topsheet of your ski
Step 4. Find center line of the ski
Step 5, Based on your mounting point and guide lines you drew, glue the
template to the topsheet over
masking tape, and double check it with the actual binding's screw holes.
Step 6, Tap a small hole in the center of drill position
Step 7, (Optional) Bore the hole larger with small size drill bit
Step 8, Drill, if you drill bit don't have a stopper, DIY one, don't drill
without stopper. And make sure the drill
hole is vertical.
Step 9, Clean the drill hole.
Step 10. Mix epoxy using Q-tips, and apply reasonable amount of epoxy into
drill hole, but don't put too
much, if it overfill after you screw the binding in, it will be super messy
to detach the binding from ski
forever.
Step 11, screw in. make sure screws go in vertically following the hole.
Step 12, Find a warm place to store your mounted skis, wait for 24 hours.
Step 13, Take it out, Have fun! | q*c

是，只再需要base plate，这样不管你多少副ski, 只需要一副binding.

megawatt is AMAZING in soft snow! Finally I feel at home in deep powder.
