Serve: Sampras (by a lot - if just looking at 2nd serve alone)
Volley: Sampras (by a lot - s&v is Sampras's core)
Forehand: Federer (not by much)
Backhand: Federer (by a lot)
Footwork: Federer (by a lot)
Return: Federer
I'm more of a Sampras fan than Federer in general, but have to be objective
about it. I think Federer IS the superior player - if just by footwork
alone - best in the business.

"Right now, the 3 surfaces are much more homogenized. The better string
gave the ground stokers power, precision, and confidence. IMO, the game
lost/is losing a lot of variety. Sure there are nice fights, but every game
became a grind, became very physical. This is one reason why Nadal can
transform from a clay court specialist to an all rounder - he can bank on
his monster physique to outlast his opponent on ANY surface. Of course the

there is little incentive for anyone else to develop his/her own style based
on the surface, which means there will be less aspiring tennis players to
break out.
On other hand, some people may indeed love the one-and-only (the best) style
.

技术派,身体派,华丽派,手碗派,兵器派 = different styles; and they are somewhat
associated with different surfaces (at least used to be) - Now and Then...
And you are correct, there is ALWAYS a 嫉妒派 - Now and Then and Future.

This is not the same as saying that the game is getting better - it just
means that the game is changing.
The game today has less variety. Some say that's a good thing, some don't.
职业 any sport at its core is entertainment. There will always be someone
who enjoys watching 2 guys with the same basic approach grind out every
point, and there will always be someone who enjoys watching 2 guys with very
different approaches to the game fight a battle. Either way, it has
