Hi everyone,
I'd like to give you a quick update on the progress of opening Houston's
first dedicated badminton facility. Our mission is to provide a reliable
home to badminton players in Houston. We want badminton to reach its
maximum potential in our beloved city.
I. Finding a site
- We have identified 2 acres of land in Stafford that would be the
ideal location for a badminton facility. It is within 10 minutes of Telfair
in Sugar Land and less than 9 minutes from the Chinatown Bellaire area.
- In addition to being central to Chinatown, Sugar Land and Houston
, Stafford has the lowest property tax rates. I have contacted the mayor of
Stafford to request for property tax abatement.
II. Funding
- The entire project is expected to cost between $2.5-$2.7 million.
We have received a quote from Clay Development for a 20,000 sq ft facility
and will get additional quotes.
- As of today, we have received commitments from investors of $525,
000. I have been working with Amegy Bank to secure a $1.7 million loan and
we are in discussions with a number of investors to fund the balance of $336
,000.

Investors who provide $25,000 or more are expected not only receive
dividends but will also receive a lifetime family membership (valued at $1,
000/year). Contact me for more info.
Once items I and II are complete, we will proceed with designing the
facility and selecting a builder. Construction is expected to last eight
months. Therefore, we plan to have our grand opening during the middle to
latter part of 2014.
So far, we have collected 43 surveys, which is not bad. But we can do
better. Please ask your badminton friends and family to fill out the survey
. Those who do so will receive one free day pass to the facility. Thanks
