You need to have a valid Canadian visa, should be multi-entry one if you
take Seattle round-trip, and single entry if one-way from Alaska to
Vancouver, Canada requires a visa even if you don't go offshore and leave
the same day on the ship.
You probably all know that with expired F/H/B visa but valid I-94, as long
as you have only visited canada and less than 30 days, you can come back to
US. so it is legal, but the problem is that Cruise ship does not know much
about it, and they might refuse you to go on board. you will not have
problem when coming back from Cananda to US as the border control people
know the law very well. in my case, since I told them I came off cruise ship
, they did not bother to ask me if my parents have gone outside Canada.
Now, to deal with cruise ship, don't both to call their customer support, it
is useless. print out the state dept. web page where it says the visa
revalidation, take with you. and also print out your air travel booking to
show that you plan to go back to us once off ship in Canada. when you board
the ship, you will be asked, and someone from the ship will then take you
document and back to ship and ask their own legal dept. it might take a few
hours, and will come back and let you know that you are OK. so, go to the
port as early as possible on the sail day.
make sure that no one takes aways your I-94 form any place.
also, at Skagway, be careful, don't cross into Canada side. the border
control people there have no clue about the law. i.e., if any excursion
requires passport, don't do it. | M*****a
