• More than seven in 10 doctors, or 71% — the most lopsided response
in the poll — answered "no" when asked if they believed "the government can
cover 47 million more people and that it will cost less money and the
quality of care will be better."
This response is consistent with critics who complain that the
administration and congressional Democrats have yet to explain how, even
with the current number of physicians and nurses, they can cover more people
and lower the cost at the same ti

"It's like giving everyone free bus passes, but there are only two buses,"
Dr. Ted Epperly, president of the American Academy of Family Physicians,
told the Associated Press.
Hope for a surge in new doctors may be misplaced. A recent study from the
Association of American Medical Colleges found steadily declining enrollment
in medical schools since 1980.
The study found that, just with current patient demand, the U.S. will have
159,000 fewer doctors than it needs by 2025. Unless corrected, that

great news! if U.S. doctors really have the guts to quit.
then congress have no options but to lift the bar and allow
foreign trained doctors to work in U.S.
this is a radical step towards saving hopeless U.S. healthcare
sadly, rich doctors would not do what they said. they
just want to crying out loudly to bargain.

I don't think most of them would really quit, but it could really drive some
of them out of practice if they are already paying high premium for
malpractice insurance

i kindly disagree with Dr. Epperly here. yeah, every body got free passes,
but the bus going not to the beach but to the cemetery. will everybody still
fighting to get on?
if i'm not sick, the last person i want to see is the doctor. how about u?
like to stop by hospital just to smell the disinfectant?

I normally wouldn't go to hospital for small problems, but if I am forced to
pay much more than I am paying now for my health insurance, I will go to
hospital every time I have any discomfort

still

what you will end up is paying more, not less, which not necessarily speed
up your recovery:-)

I know that. But unfortunately that's what a lot of people will do if you
force them to pay 13% of their salary for nothing

let's talk about some dirty facts
yes, some of those who can only "tolerate" 200+k/y "stressful" life
probably will quit.
but many more who can be happy about 100k-/y will join, they can
do pretty much 80% of low complexity medical jobs.
the total supply will increase, and even for rich people who
demand the most advanced procedure every time, the total price
will drop significantly because the associated services are
much cheaper.
for the insurance, don't worry, tasks worth 100k-/y are
much les

There are already many foreign trained doctors practicing
in the US. The barrier is about not where they were trained,
but where they were _certificed_ and licensed.
I don't have problem seeing a foreign trained doctor, but
a doctor with some random foreign certification or license
is a whole different story.
That being said, of course there are some middle roads.
The US could have a list of recognized foreign certifications,
and let the patients choose - IOW, let the market decide.
