To the surprise of no one, presidential candidates this year are spending
record amounts of money on television ads, and these ads are overwhelmingly
negative, more so on the part of President Obama's ads than those of his
challenger.
An outfit called Wesleyan Media Project has looked at all the ads and
concluded that 96 percent of Obama's ads are negative while "only" 68.6
percent of Mitt Romney’s are. It also concluded that 34.9 percent of Obama'
s ads appeal to fear while just 1.2 percent of Romney’s do.
Students are taught in law school (I'm told -- I never went) that when
arguing a case in court, if the facts are not on your side, argue the law.
If the law is not on your side, argue the facts. If neither the facts nor
the law are on your side, pound the table.
In these ads, and in his public appearances, Obama is pounding the table. As
his administration has been an uninterrupted train wreck for nearly four
years, he has no other option. Look for more of this tonight. |
