Ann Arbor Public Schools will not allow weapons on school property, the
district said in a statement issued Wednesday.
The March 18 statement comes a week after Board of Education President Deb
Mexicotte said the board does not want guns in schools.
School board officials are considering policies to keep concealed pistol
license holders from openly carrying guns on campus, which is legal in
Michigan. Policies could make Ann Arbor schools either weapon- or disruption
-free zones.
The board believes weapons disrupt the learning environment for students and
staff both in school and at school-sponsored events, according to the
statement.
"The Ann Arbor Public Schools has experienced disruptions for students,
staff, and other participants when individuals open carry on district
property, and as a result, AAPS will not allow weapons on district property,
at events on campus or any school sponsored activities," the district
stated.
A ban on weapons does not include law enforcement officials, said Liz
Margolis, district spokeswoman.
If a visitor brings a gun on school property, Ann Arbor administrators will
call the police and ask the visitor to leave, Mexicotte said Monday.

The policy work stems from a March 5 controversy when a man carried a gun
into Pioneer High School at a choir concert.
About 200 people attended the March 11 Ann Arbor school board meeting, and
nearly 40 people spoke about guns on school grounds during public comment.
The Board of Education's three-member governance committee will meet at 3 p.
m. Friday at the Sheraton Ann Arbor Hotel, 3200 Boardwalk Drive, to further
discuss policy before reporting to the full board on March 25. The meeting
continues a conversation members had Monday.
District officials have acknowledged a weapons-free policy could lead to a
lawsuit. Another Michigan school district is already dealing with such a
lawsuit.
AAPS will not allow weapons on district property, at events on campus or any
school sponsored activities.
On March 5, a Clio Area School District parent filed suit against the
district, claiming he was denied access to an elementary school while trying
to pick up his daughter because he was openly carrying a pistol.

Superintendent Jeanice Swift also addressed the controversy in her blog. She
stated the issue is not about the Second Amendment, state law or politics,
but keeping students safe.
"As a veteran educator, I am astounded by the incongruence of allowing the
legal open carry of weapons into our schools, particularly when that is the
very threat we have worked so diligently to prevent," she wrote.
"We have long had a zero-tolerance approach for any student or staff who
would bring a firearm to school. I know personally that the presence of guns
in schools is an alarming prospect for our children and for the adults who
have responsibility for them. Seeing guns on strangers is scary and
unsettling for our children as it is for the adults charged with keeping
students safe," she continued.
Swift referenced recent incidents at Michigan schools involving guns,
including a Madison Heights man openly carrying a rifle on school grounds
and a Macomb County assistant prosecutor forgetting he was carrying a
concealed gun in a school.
On Tuesday, March 17, a Kalamazoo 10th-grader brought a gun to Kalamazoo Loy
Norrix High School and accidentally shot it in a bathroom. No one was
injured.
Swift also recalled the 1999 Columbine shooting, in which 15 people died,
including the two teenagers who shot up the school. She noted it occurred
near where she taught in Colorado at the time, and the 2012 shooting at
Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut. Twenty-six people died in that
shooting, including 20 children.
"Unfortunately, school shootings do happen in schools and communities like
ours," she wrote. "Over the previous two decades, educators have come to
understand that the unthinkable can happen, and it can happen at school."
The Ann Arbor Public School Board of Education will discuss safety and guns
in schools at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 25 at the downtown branch of the Ann
Arbor District Library, 343 S. Fifth Ave.

公开携枪是 rights，隐蔽携枪只是 privilege，但在战术上有利。
光明正大合法带枪进来的基本都是好人。坏人要是偷偷带枪进来，伤害的就不光是你那
脆弱的小心灵了。嘿嘿。

好像只要带枪出来就不是好人一样
这种事情见怪不怪，时间长了等到对左逼大忽悠的应激期过去，习惯了就好了
