Overview
I am looking for an ambitious PhD student with a strong engineering
background. The area of research will
be in the field of MEMS biosensors based on live animal cells. The PhD
student will conduct research in my
MEMS/Nanotechnology laboratory at City College, and at Massachusetts
Institute of Technology (MIT). The
research is in collboration with a professor from MIT and Harvard University
- so the student will often travel
to MIT and Harvard and will spend several months per year in a research
laboratory at MIT and Harvard
Medical School in Boston. The student will have a strong scientific
background in order to be able to
conduct interesting MEMS research at MITand Harvard Medical School.
The PhD position is in the Mechanical Engineering department. The student
who will apply for this PhD
position is required to have a master degree. The PhD student will need to
have good grades for the
bachelor degree and the master degree and excellent communication skills in
both written and spoken
English.
Requirements
The student must have master degree and bachelor degree in Mechanical
Engineering or similar discipline
from good universities, because the PhD position is in Mechanical
Engineering. Students who have
experience in MEMS device design or fabrication, electrical measurements and
instrumentation are
preferred. But a student with a strong background can learn MEMS fabrication
after he starts the PhD
program. The PhD research involves a high degree of hands-on
microfabrication, MEMS device
characterization and mammalian cell culture, and it is desirable that the
applicants have relevant
backgrounds in these areas.
Responsibilities
The study for the PhD will start in September 2011. The PhD student will
travel frequently to Boston and
will conduct part of the research there.
Application
Applicants should send a resume to Professor Ioana Voiculescu, e-mail
