LG is going to have an offer of $75,000/year (may have 10% end-year bonus
with favorable evaluation) from a pharmaceutical company in MD area. The
title is research scientist I. Have you ever seen an offer lower than this,
even for a fresh PhD?
LG get a PhD in chemistry in 2007. he once worked in a small pharmaceutical
company in another state. Currently he is working in academia. The advantage
of staying in the current position is he can learn the most advanced
techniques, although he earned less than in industry.
So we are struggling making a decision. If he stays in academia he will
learn more things and may have better opportunity in future. If he accepts
the offer he will earn more but he'll do similar things as he did in his
previous industry position. He may not learn as much advanced skills as in
the current position. The other point is, $75,000 is not a high salary.
So guys, any suggestions if my LG should accept the offer? Thanks a lot! | W***n

School and is relative stable, and I will learn most advanced technologies,
just the money is much lower that in industry. But in the long run, a couple
of years later, I might make a good money, but just might!! The new
opportunity will also touch some new stuff, but not that fancy. I am not
sure if I should make money first when I have the chance or wait another
couple of years to learn more stuff. But any how, there is always new
technologies to learn at any time. | B********e

Looking at the past, you have learned new technologies and fancy stuff. Did
it get you a satisfactory job? If not, why waste more time?
You may want to use excel to model your income over the next few years, and
do some scenario analysis.

不过如果是generic 的pharm话，这个年新也可以了
如果你lg将来想留在学术界，那么就不要动；如果将来还想去药厂，take this offer。工业经验比你所学的所谓新东西更有用啊。

。外包出去性价比好多了。
