DAFO说天然气界有大革命到来，页岩一举解决能源问题。另有一名美国知名投资人在11
月份也提到页岩的突破和天然气未来代替石油的可能，中国媒体也有报道。。。。。。
如果是真的，这是三五年内值得关注的大势，起势之后，中段咬上一口就发了。

Bone-chilling weather across much of US helped push up natural gas prices,
reduce supplies
You can blame the rising price of natural gas on cold weather and Christmas
lights.
Natural gas has risen about 5 percent since the first of the month, as cold
air and snow poured across much of the country. Forecasts say the cold will
continue for at least another couple of weeks.
Since about half the homes in the country are heated with natural gas,
prices rise as winter sets in. Natural gas hit a four-month high on
Wednesday, but it is still well below the yearly peak of about $6 per 1,000
cubic feet reached last January.
On Thursday natural gas slipped 17.4 cents to settle at $4.435 per 1,000
cubic feet on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The government said Thursday
that natural gas supplies fell last week as thermostats were cranked up.
Although shrinking supplies often push up prices, analysts said the drop was
expected and already priced in.
The recent spike in natural gas prices also happened because of a jump in
electricity demand.
Nearly 10 percent of the country's electricity is produced by natural-gas
fired power plants. The Edison Electric Institute said U.S. electricity
output rose 1.4 percent last week, compared with a year earlier.
In addition to everyday electricity use for such things as space heating,
appliances and water heaters, Christmas lights are an extra source of power
demand at this time of year, analysts say. "You do get about a four-week
spike in Christmas light load, believe it or not," said energy analyst
Stephen Schork.
Meanwhile, drivers are seeing pump prices creep closer to $3 a gallon across
the country. The price of a gallon of regular hit $2.975 a gallon on
Thursday, according to AAA, Wright Express and the Oil Price Information
Service. That's nearly 10 cents more than a week ago and 34 cents more than
a year ago. The average price could reach $3 a gallon or more by Christmas.
It would be the first time ever that pump prices averaged $3 a gallon at the
holiday. In some parts of the country drivers already pay more than that.
In its weekly report the Energy Department said natural gas supplies in the
U.S. fell 89 billion cubic feet to 3.725 trillion cubic feet for the week
ended Dec. 3. That is 1.5 percent less than a year ago and 9.8 percent more
than the five-year average.
In other energy trading, oil prices rose slightly on encouraging economic
news. U.S. jobless claims dropped and Japan said its economy grew more than
expected in the third quarter. Benchmark oil for January delivery added 9
cents to settle at $88.37 a barrel.
In other Nymex trading, heating oil rose 0.61 cent to settle at $2.4668 a
gallon, gasoline gained 3.59 cents to settle at $2.3405 a gallon.
In London, Brent crude rose 22 cents to settle at $90.99 a barrel on the ICE
Futures exchange.

Chesapeake Energy Corp. (NYSE: CHK) continues to climb higher, gaining
nearly 7% this morning after Carl Icahn disclosed on Friday that his stake
was higher than it was in November.
Icahn disclosed in a filing with the SEC that he now holds 5.8% of the
company.
Jeff Mobley, senior vice president of investor relations and research for
Chesapeake, said Icahn now ranks as "one of our largest shareholders."
Mobley said Icahn began buying shares in the first quarter of this year, and
bought preferred stock n May. "We have met with Carl on several occasions,
as recently as Friday afternoon," Mobley told Marketwatch in an email. "We
believe his investment is evidence of his appreciation for our asset quality
and for the strategic direction of the company."
At last check, shares of CHK were up $1.62 to $24.92, a gain of 6.95%.
