In China's rural areas, there are many so-called "Left-behind kids". The
kids' parents have to go to cities, which could be hundreds or thousands of
miles away, to earn a living and support their family. As a result, these
kids stay with their grandparents at home, and might not be able to see
their parents for months or even years. Besides poverty, these left-behind
kids also have to endure loneliness. Their parents are not there with them,
to care for them, to tell stories or answer questions.
That might be a gap that nothing else can fill. However, we could at least
pour a little more happiness into these kids' lives: the happiness of
reading. Not only is reading a way to gain knowledge, but also it is one of
the greatest pleasures in life. While reading a great book, the kids will
forget that they're left behind and no longer feel lonely.
Our goal here is to raise $1200, with which we will purchase about 600
books for 532 left-behind kids from two elementary schools in Hunan province
.
The first school is the Friendship Camp Yi-qing Elementary School in Ning-
yuan county, Rong-zhou city, Hunan province. A few years ago a non-profit
organization, Friendship Camp, raised $13000 to establish the school. Since
then they have managed to run the school for 7 semesters. Now there are 5
teachers, all volunteers, and 50 left-behind students (in first, second and
third grade) in the school. They own a total of 250 books, donated by the
teachers, among which only about 80 are good for the kids. The teachers
hope to receive more books for the kids, because they believe that
elementary education is key to develop one's basic capabilities, and reading
can play a significant role. Since the small school doesn't own a library,
the books will be held in each of the three classrooms, and teachers will
lead reading classes to help students with the books.
The second school is the Central Primary School of Nine Creeks Township in
Xupu county, Hunan province. There are 28 teachers and 482 students, most of
them left-behind kids, in the school and they own a library with about 4000
books. The teachers there also long for more books for the kids. The
teachers promise that the library will be open everyday for the kids to
enjoy reading, and they will try different ways to encourage reading, such
as organizing the kids to write about what they read.
After books delivered, our volunteers will visit the schools from time to
time and update you with how the kids enjoy reading them.
在中国农村，有一群孩子叫做"留守儿童"：他们的父母一方甚至双方远离家乡，到城市
谋生，常年累月不能回家； 这些孩子只能跟自己的祖父母相伴。相比一般的农村孩子
，除了共同的贫困之外，这些孩子们还要承受父母不在身边的孤独，他们还缺少父母的
关心、照顾和教育。
这个缺憾也许无法填补。但是也许我们可以为这些孩子的生活增添一点乐趣：阅读的乐
趣。阅读不光可以学到知识、开阔视野，而且当孩子们沉浸到书的世界里，他们会忘记
自己是留守儿童，他们不会觉得孤单。
我们的目标，是为湖南省两个小学的532个孩子募集到1200美金，给他们送去大概600本
书。
湖南省永州市宁远县好友营毅清小学

好友营毅清小学是几年前由"好友营支教组织"http://www.hyy1996.com/, 筹款8万人民币（约13000美金）成立的，完全由义务支教的老师负责教学和日常管理。至今他们已经坚持了7个学期。目前学校拥有5个教师，50个学生（分别就读于一、二、三年级）。学校里只有250本书，都是之前支教的老师个人捐赠的，其中适合孩子们阅读的只有80本。老师们希望能有更多的书来帮助这些孩子们，他们说："中小学教育，是培养一个人基础能力的阶段。在此期间，首要的是任务养成学生的学习习惯和学习方法。对于此目标的达成，课外阅读可以起到巨大的作用，是课堂教学无法替代的。其重要性可以延伸至一个人的一生。" 他们还计划在有了书之后，"因为我们没有一个单独的图书室，我们的计划是在三个班级各设一个图书角，一年级由老师负责管理，二三年级培养学生自主管理。同时在二三年级开办阅读辅导课，每月至少讲一次。"

九溪江小学拥有28位教师，482个小学生－－ 大部分都是留守儿童。这些孩子们拥有一
个50平米的图书馆，藏书4000本，平均每人8本左右。
"如果本校能有幸得到资助，我们将本着充分关爱学子的态度，为留守儿童营造一个温
馨的书籍阅读环境，专门请教师指导学生选用书籍，每天定期开放图书室，并举办"读
好书"心得体验征文等活动。"
书送到学校之后，我们的义工会定期到学校走访，用照片和文字把图书的利用情况反馈
