Can't say I agree with him; but for those who are fascinated
by the idea of singularity, he provides some food for thought.

Nowadays the most notable advocate of the Technological Singularity
is Charles Stross, with his "Accelerando" series of short fictions
and a few novels. But I guess most cyber-punk writers would be attracted
to this idea and write to this theme sooner or later. The difference
is only whether they explicitly use the term "Singularity" in their
stories, hehe...

Heh, I read the original paper, and think the idea is rather compelling.
But it seems some AI old timers, once stung by the AI winter, don't
view it favorably. They over-reacted, IMHO.
Thanks for the info!

Yeah...predicting the unpredictable, fathoming the unfathomable,
sounds like oxymoron, but that's where the fun is. My advisor once
said that back in 1995 when he was reviewing a paper about the
first P2P network prototype, he was like "what the hell, who would
ever use this thing!" and most of the other reviewers held similar
opinions. It turned out that P2P really caught on now, ironically
thanks to the lackluster adoption of the IP Multicast schemes which
my advisor worked on for a long time.
