、大提琴手Zuill Bailey和Nashville交响乐队演奏的大提琴交响乐《Tales of
Hemingway》获得三项Grammy奖：Best Classical Instrumental Solo, Best
Contemporary Classical Composition, and Best Classical Compendium （查
compendium是a publication containing a variety of works——那就叫组曲吧）。
Michael Daughert是耶鲁82届音乐硕士，87届音乐博士；《Tales of Hemingway》是
Nashville交响乐队及其指挥Giancarlo Guerrero委托他创作的。

generations -- Hemingway's father, Clarence; siblings Ursula, Leicester and

去之前看精华帖，都说Key West是个巴掌大的小岛，只有两三个景点，没啥看头。相反地，我觉得在Key West呆上一天还是值得的。早上我们先去Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum，门票$12/person，二老一看说好贵啊，也听不懂，我们就没去了。Hemingway Home对面有个white lighthouse，这个也是个Key West Lighthouse Museum，门票$10/person。这些园子面积都不大，但收费还是挺贵的。

厌倦的时候改变颜色，并且有本事令人永远沉醉与此刻。
好比在这样的傍晚出门，每次都如预期又在预料之外被
一些奇异的夏夜特有的气息击中。当我沉心要想一些句
子的时候，又觉得不可能，因为少了点什么。。
孤独是一个不应该被我说出的词了，所以它所代表的奢
侈，每每叫我向往却又受困于想象力的浅薄。一口气看
很多精彩的文字之后就有欲望要写下一点属于我自己的
“不平凡”的文字，结果却总是重复已经重复过的东西。
想要同时享受季节和享受想象力，在我至少，是不可能
的事。所以夏夜的气息不可避免地要一点一点隐去时间
流里。
说说我最钟爱的小说吧。听人说hemingway和fitzgerald
是同时代的美国作家，经常被相提并论。奇怪的是这两
人的风格怎么相反到南辕北辙的地步呢？这使我竟从没
意识到他们时代和背景的相似之处。hemingway以精简见
长，而fitzgerald恰恰是辞藻华丽的代表人物。hemingway
用文字“剥削”人类感情到了不拔一毛的程度，而fitzgerald
则是用尽一切笔墨抒情，写人，写对话，写风景，直到
用词的选择，无不匠心俱至。 |

pompous的一篇散文，就是那个写animal farm和《1984》的作家。这些人好厉害，随便一个英语单词，都说得上词根，比如cold, hard这些简单的词，好像都是anglo-saxon的古英语？词形复杂的近义词，就都是拉丁词根。说现在的英语，用拉丁词根的复杂的单词越来越多，简单有力的英语越来越少。不过说以前的文学，流行flowery style，花哨得很；现在如hemingway的文学，就是
lean style，尽量少用形容词副词。hemingway说当记者的时候，编辑训练他，不许用
副词形容词，对他今后的写作风格很有帮助。 |

海明威一生中的感情错综复杂，先后结过四次婚，是美国“迷失的一代”（Lost
Generation）作家中的代表人物，作品中对人生、世界、社会都表现出了迷茫和彷徨。
1939年至1960年间，海明威在古巴定居，并称自己为“普通的古巴人”。在这段期间海
明威写下了闻名于世的代表作《老人与海》
1952年，《老人与海》出版，海明威对这中篇小说的成功极为满意，他据此获得1953年
度普利策奖及1954年度诺贝尔文学奖两项殊荣。此后，他再临噩运：在一次狩猎中，他
先后遭遇两次飞机失事，因而受重伤；他扭伤了右肩、手臂和左腿，严重受到脑震荡，
他的左眼暂时失明，左耳也暂时失聪，括约肌瘫痪，脊椎骨严重受伤，肝脏、脾脏和肾
脏破裂，脸部、手臂和腿被严重烧伤。一些美国报纸误发了海明威的讣告，以为他当时
已伤重不治。此外，在一个月以后，他更在一次森林大火意外中受重伤，双腿、前躯干
、双唇、双手前臂严重烧伤。这些痛楚一直维持了很久，令他无法到斯德哥尔摩接受诺
贝尔奖。

佛教在中国是一个比较主要的宗教，道教不是一个影响力很大的宗教。
道家思想是中国最原始的一部分，道家历代单传，不可能形成大的宗教。
而道家思想在入世的一面，发展出了儒家，儒家师承于道家。
中国古代，乃至今天，仍然崇尚儒家，儒家虽然只是哲学思想。
儒教的教也是教化的含义。儒教完全可以和佛教入世的那一部分分庭抗衡。
因为大量的儒生都是治理国家的需要。儒家早就被统治者接受并且一直延续。
秦始皇的焚书坑儒，虽然烧掉儒家的著作，坑的大多是术士，这些是搞巫术
的，而不是儒生。
