Usually 4432, with both M.
or 4432 with one major but the short 2 is in C
IMO, any 4333 balanced hand should X.
certainly, with any a 5 major, you should bid directly.
However, with a Vul vs none, I agree with you that more hand should pass and
less hand should X.
Actually, I think you should X only when you have none major and very good
stopper, and strongly suggest def.
Usually, you C should like this KJxx or QJxx. and you don't have any major at
all. so only 2344, or
