I consider posting on this board, although narrowly serving,
a part of my "service".
btw: The fact that one needs to be tenured doesn't mean that,
by any stretch of the means, he needs to kill himself. :-).
Tenure is just a rank of job, not a rank of life...Cheers.

the life of an AP is affected quite much by T&P, in general, not those
little "bulls".

Thanks for your note alerting me of your "services" to the mitbbs bulletin
board. While I'm sure that your frequent posting on mitbbs contributes
positively to the internet traffic and to your visibility (a.k.a. niubility)

Thank you very much for your kind reply.
I am especially appreciative about your candidness regarding my mitbbs
postings. Please let me clarify that I, by no means, expected to
substitute my duty to server our department and school with my
"services" to the mitbbs bulletin board. However, I do consider my postings
at mitbbs a positive contribution to the academic community, given the fact
that many readers of my postings are or intend to become faculty members.

Teaching without ever start-uping a company resembles
life-long marriage without ever having an affair,
although commendable, not stimulating. That said, I
would not try it without a tenure myself unless having
an idea with Google's magnitude.:)

friends. It was totally "unintentional" but opportunities came up and it
keeps rolling.
P.S. outcry & "chair" are good writers. Outcry probably has quite some
funding to support his efforts on mitbbs. |

Thank you for your significant contribution to the MITBBS. Although your
Chair may have a point, I do think we need all outside notoriety in boosting
our college of ranking and degree of fame and what you have been doing is
indeed helping us move towards this direction. In recognition of your
contribution, I am considering to establish an award in our college to
recognize those who have impact our notoriety nationally and internationally
.
